Twin Tornadoes

(Originally published by Nattie on August 18, 2003)
Twin tornadoes touch down in Small Town USA, Indiana.
Their efforts seemed to be concentrated on a small area in the Country Club Estates. Namely apartment J79. There, destruction ripped a path from their bedroom to their parents’ room, leaving pictures of cats drawn in Sharpee on white paint.

A pile of photos on their mother’s scrapbook table was tossed to the floor. Toys and blankets were strewn across the area as they moved to the bathroom coating fixtures in minty toothpaste and diaper rash ointment.
The path of destruction moves down the stairs to the living room upending baskets of clean laundry and devouring large quantities of Dannon yogurt.
Finally in the quiet that follows a storm, you hear the ABC song being sung…”A, B, C, D, 8, 9, 10…”

I don’t remember seeing this posted the first time but I do feel her pain.

I remember when my brother, cousin mike to natalie, got sent to his room for writing on the walls in red crayon. After a while, he asked mom if he could practice his “T’s”. He was only 4 and learning to write. Mom said yes, so he wrote red T’s all over the walls in his room. Silly mom didn’t specify that he had to use paper!

Quiet smile. Clip this for her kids and put it in their family photo album, okay?

Thank goodness my boys weren’t artists in training. However, they were both highly intriqued by fire, and more than one potential tragedy was thwarted by the discovery of matches in their rooms. How did we not lose our sanity during those early years with our children?
