is spring break over yet?

(Originally published by Nattie on March 27, 2004)
My son has only been out of school one day so far for spring break and he’s already challenged my authority 101 times. I’m ready for him to go back to school even if it is only 2-1/2 hours a day.
He just loves to push the boundaries and I need a break. I need a spring break!

I’ve been up since 5. Sometime in the night my daughter joined me in bed. This is a normal thing anymore and I’m so used to it that I don’t even notice. I wish I could break her of this habit, but I’m picking my battles. I don’t have the energy for this one.
Anyway I don’t know how, but she rolled out of our bed around 5 and hit the floor with a thud. This of course woke up her brother.
I managed to get them both quieted down, but I was wide awake by then. So I got up thinking I could have a quiet time. Nope. Hubby was awake downstairs watching tv. I guess I could have locked myself in the bathroom or the kids’ room, but neither smell that great. 😉
So I cuddled up in my corner and read my Bible. I also read a few chapters of Discipline—the Glad Surrender by Elisabeth Elliott. I exercised with Denise Austin on her Lifetime programs. She has two 20-minute workouts every morning. Of course, the kids had to watch me. Why do they follow me wherever I go? Why does my son pick on his sister relentlessly?
We also went to the library. This week is the last week of Winter storytime. Jonathan played a computer game during storytime since he is normally in school at this time. That should have been a treat for him and it was until he realized he didn’t get a storytime handout and activity sheet. I had told him he would get one Thursday when he came for storytime. He didn’t care. He wears me out.
It was only 11 o’clock and I seriously wanted to start the day over. I took the kids home to hubby and went to the grocery store. I decided to finish up another library book. Then I folded laundry. Now I’m getting ready to do more spring cleaning. I had started on a few projects over the weekend that need finishing.
Is it bedtime yet? Will my son who never sleeps take a nap at least? Will I make it through this week? Will I get a spring break? NOT!
BTW, I think it is supposed to rain every day this week and only be in the 50s. Bah! I miss California spring breaks spent by the swimming pool or at the beach.
