bedtime routine

(Originally published by Nattie on October 20, 2003)

Why does it take two hours to get two kids ready for bed?
* take bath
~ run around naked while Mom tries to dry us off
* go potty
~ run around naked while Mom tries to make sure we wiped and washed our hands
* brush teeth
~ run around naked while Mom tries to make sure we actually brushed our teeth and didn't just eat the toothpaste
* get pj's on

~ decide we don't like the pj's Mom picked out and pick out our own
* get pj's on again
~ decide we'd rather sleep naked
* pick up toys...after Mom threatens to throw away any toys left out
~ get our pillow, blankie, doggie or dollie, books, back pack and the kitchen sink to take to bed with us
* get tucked in
~ have to go potty again
* get tucked in again
~ forgot a book
* close curtains
~ (can't sleep with the curtains open)
* get tucked in again
~ say prayer
* need a drink of water
~ read a story
* have to go potty again
~ give Mommy hug, kiss and "five"--twice
* Mommy closes the door...breathes a sigh of relief...only to hear...
~ "Mommy, I...."
* See Mommy run screaming from the house

The great underwear revolt

(Originally published by Nattie on October 20, 2003)

My five-year-old is still not potty trained. It is a battle of the wills.

Nothing is wrong with him, except stubborness. He will pee in the potty, but he won't have a bowel movement. So he is still in pull-ups. We ran out of pull-ups and ran out of money for more pull-ups. So he was put in underwear.

In response, he drew a pair of underwear, drew a circle around them and then put a line through the underwear. His meaning--NO UNDERWEAR! He even had daddy write no underwear on the drawing and then Jonathan put it on the fridge. *sigh* How do I fight that?! :o)

Hand over the duct tape

(Originally published by Nattie on October 18, 2003)

I need to learn to keep my mouth shut. Didn't I just have an entry about the power of words?

I shot my mouth off. Even used an obscenity *gasp* and for anyone who knows me at all, I never cuss unless very angry. Yes, I was angry, but I still should have kept my mouth shut!! When will I learn?

Forgive me, Lord, for I'm stupid. Thank you, Lord, for loving me even when I say and do the wrong thing.

Thank you, Lord, for grace!

busy in another way

(Originally published by Nattie on October 16, 2003)

Today was another busy, but I only left the house once. Today I was dealing with computer matters. I have had major problems with Outlook Express.

So I'm trying Netscape Mail now. As many times as I had to reinstall OE, I now believe that Bill Gates should be in Congress. ;o)

Then, of course, I had to goof around with my new mail features. Did I get any dishes done? Well, I did clean out half of the double sink. I did fix three meals today. I did go to the library and check out Yours, Mine and Ours. I did get the pumpkin lights put up (the kids have been bugging me to death to decorate for fall and halloween--nothing scary—just leaves, scarecrows and pumpkins).

I did not get the laundry folded. I did not do any more laundry. I didn't vacuum. I stayed in my pajamas till the handy man came to replace our locks (Dana could relate *wink*). I took a nap. I read my daughter a book.

Now it is time for bed.

Good night!

broken promises

(Originally published by Nattie on October 15, 2003)

broken promises are what you have when you live with a man who is a recovering alcoholic who won't admit he is an alcoholic.

The kids fell asleep on the couch waiting for Daddy to come home and roast marshmellows with them. They fell asleep on the couch waiting for Daddy to come home and cook out with them.

No bubbles got blown.

No kites got flown.

I did work on redesigning my xanga blog and did some reviews.

I think I'll go to bed and cry.

I got a superty dupity...

(Originally published by Nattie on October 14, 2003)

...good deal at the library today. Monday when I took the kids to story time I noticed they had some books for sale. Not a full blown book sale, just a rack of books--hard back books for only a 1.00 a piece.

I noticed two Jan Karon books, but didn't have any money with me. When I went back today they were still there!!!!!! So I got the hard back versions of These High Green Hills and In This Mountain for only 2.00!!!!!!!!!! Yippee!!!!

(Originally published by Nattie on October 13, 2003)

I don't have much of importance to say today, so I'll direct you to some good blog reads:
~ Ann gets as excited as I do about book sales.
~ Melissa likes a little nonsense in her life.
~ Elaine had a beautiful baby girl. Welcome to the world, Meg!
~ Angie posted a great Gumbo recipe. Now if I can find someone to cook it for me? Hmmm...

Well, there weren't many entries out there. Maybe no one else can think of anything to say either.

Stress

(Originally published by Nattie on October 11, 2003)

It is only Monday and I'm already stressed out. I've got way too many things to do and too little time to do it in. I'm trying to juggle schedules to get my husband to work on time and still get to a viewing, a funeral, doctor's appointments, counseling and speech therapy. The list goes on. Somewhere in there I'm needing to find time to breathe, fix meals, do dishes and laundry and finish up some articles that are due this week. Where is my double when I need it?

Is there something you are wanting to spend your time doing? Is there a passion that you have but it seems to always be on the back burner? What can you do to find time for what you love most?

What can you do to include your family in that passion? Do you need time alone or can you fit it in around all the daily busyness?

Do you allow your children and spouse time to indulge in their passions? Do you even know what their passions are?

How about you--do you know what God has placed in your heart as a passion and a "creative call"? Tell us about it and then take time to do what you have been created to do!

power struggles

(Originally published by Nattie on October 10, 2003)

I spent the majority of the day in a power struggle with my five-year-old. It is a struggle to get him dressed in the morning. A struggle to get him to use the potty instead of soiling his underwear. A struggle to get him to put his dishes up. A struggle to get him to pick up his toys. The list goes on. I can see the teen years ahead as being just as bad. So tonight I'm clinging to the Rock who is higher than I.

This 'n that

(Originally published by Nattie on October 9, 2003)

First I fell. Then Wes fell. Then Anna got a cold. Now Jonathan is throwing up. Isn't it great to be a mom?!

I'm going to post answers to some questions I got from the friday five archives:

What are the first things that you do in the morning to start your day?
Go potty. :o)
Get some caffeine.

What are the last things that you do at night before going to bed?
Go potty. :o)
Take my medicine.
Make sure the doors are locked and lights are off.
Check on the kids.
Read, pray, watch tv not necessarily in that order.

What daily routine have you recently added to your day?
I was getting up at 5:30, but someone didn't call me yesterday morning. I hope she is okay. Dana, are you okay? I get more done when I get up earlier, but it ain't easy.

What routine do you wish you could get rid of?
Diapers! Need I say more? Potty training is a pain in the butt.

What's the one thing that makes you feel like something is missing if you don't do it some point within your day?
Email or IM with my friends and family

How often do you do laundry?
Usually daily, but I've gotten behind with my foot and ankle sprain.

What's in a typical washload?
Endless loads of towels.
I have to wash hubbies jeans every day, too. He only has three pair and only likes two of those (shhhh...the third pair is too tight) and he is working seven days a week. So you do the math. :o)

Front or top loader? Powder or liquid detergent?
Top load. Liquid detergent--Purex. Thankfully the kids seem to have gotten over their detergent allergy. For a while I had to wash all their stuff in Dreft.

Do you use fabric softener in the rinse cycle?
Only on hubbies work clothes. They stink and need all the help they can get.

Dryer or clothesline?
Dryer that I have to run twice to get it to dry even though it is newer than our washer. I love to see clothes flapping on the line, but I live in an apartment and don't have a clothesline.

If you could only choose one cd to ever listen to again, what would it be?
Songs 4 Life--"Feel the Power"
It has a good mix of my favorite songs.

If you could only choose two movies to watch ever again, what would they be?
You've Got Mail
Where the Heart Is

If you could only choose 3 books to read ever again, what would they be?
The Bible
Anne of Green Gables
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

If you could only choose four things to eat or drink ever again, what would they be?
Diet coke
Pringles with French Onion Dip
Reese bites
BLT's

If you could only choose five people to ever be/talk/associate/whatever with ever again, who would they be?
This one was hard...
my mom
my dad
my husband
my women at home friends (yes, that is more than five)
Melanie & Jennifer
my CJ friends - Susan, Leann, Angie, Ann,...okay I'm way over five now. :o)

Don't forget to give thanks even when life is crummy
1. That when I woke Wes up to help me with Jonathan he didn't even grumble.

2. Jonathan seems to be keeping the rest of his breakfast down.

3. That Anna is playing quietly.

4. For muck buckets...great for toys but even better for puke buckets.

5. That we don't have to go anywhere except church all weekend.

Which season are you?
Season = Spring
You're Most Like The Season Spring ...

Fresh faced, with a young outlook on life--you smile at the world and expect it to smile back at you. You're mostly a bubbly, fun--innocent person. Described as cute possibly. However, you're a little naive about things and tend to be a little too trustworthy.

As the first season, It Makes you the youngest--and so most immature--but people are inclined to look out for and protect you.

Well done... You're the most fun of the seasons :)

Good news, bad news

(Originally published by Nattie on October 6, 2003)

- The bad news is I knocked over my favorite mikasa crystal frame and smashed it into a million pieces.
+ The good news is that Jonathan didn't get cut when he decided to disobey Daddy and walk over the glass in bare feet. It is only a frame. It is not as important as my family.

- The bad news is the kids took forever to get dressed for story time.
+ The good news is they did get dressed and enjoyed learning about ovals.

- The bad news is that I have been nagging my husband to do the dishes forever.
+ The good news is he did them and I didn't have to strangle him. (I won't go into him only loading the dish washer half full or making me fix his lunch so he could do dishes).

- The bad news is that Jonathan spilled his chocolate milk for the millionth time.
+ The good news is that I didn't strangle him when he did it. He did manage to clean it up using two beach towels and a lot of nagging from mom.

- The bad news is I got stung by a bee.
+ The good news is I got to read outside in the warm sunshine for 45 minutes before getting stung by the bee.

- The bad news is my children whined all day.
+ The good news is they are now in bed.

- The bad news is I didn't get to put my feet up enough today and my ankle and foot is throbbing.
+ The good news is the kids are in bed so I can take a bubble bath, listen to some Keith Green and read my book.

= Good night
