Credit where credit is due
Back when I started posting archived entries, here, I told you this would always be Nattie’s blog. It will never be about me. Consequently, I considred not approving Uncle Brian’s comment. But it’s about her, too.
I did help publicize Boyd in the early days, but he was destined for fame and greatness before I met him. Some of his works had already been featured in print, and he was well on his way, even while working on one car at a time, with part-time help, in the garage behind his house. He would have been just as big if I had never come along...but this isn’t about him, either.
Somewhere there are photos of a junior-high-aged girl, bored out of her mind, sitting patiently in Boyd’s body shop while her daddy took pictures of Boyd, and (Ford Mustang) designer Larry Erickson, ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons, and assorted camp followers, as they pored over the progress being made on Billy’s CadZZilla.
When Nattie’s Mom decided to stay here last summer, as long as she was needed, she borrowed a car from Wes’ mom. Realizing that Boyd might be able to bring Mary’s car in one of his trucks when they came to a show at Indianapolis in June. I asked a mutual friend to track him down--turned out he was more than willing to help, but his trucks had already left Anaheim.
He did phone to see how we were doing. Caught me at Natalie’s bedside on June 6, only 12 hours before she left us behind. He offered his sincere sympathies, thoughts and prayers. He said things were going great, and he enjoyed his frantic pace. And that was the last time we spoke.
I heard last month Boyd had been ailing, but never dreamed his condition would take such a drastic turn. There’s sadness everywhere. Now, our prayers are with the Coddington family, and our thoughts are of better days.
Hugs all around.

Book lovers' quote
(Originally published by Nattie on October 27, 2003)
My friend Peppermint Pattie shared this quote with me...
"Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend; and inside a dog, it's too dark to read." ~Groucho Marx~
He's had some other classic quotes--
"I find television very educational. Every time someone switches it on, I go into another room and read a good book."
or
"I did toy with the idea of doing a cook-book... The recipes were to be the routine ones: how to make dry toast, instant coffee, hearts of lettuce and brownies. But as an added attraction, at no extra charge, my idea was to put a fried egg on the cover. I think a lot of people who hate literature but love fried eggs would buy it if the price was right."
or
"Age is not a particularly interesting subject. Anyone can get old. All you have to do is live long enough."
I love his sense of humor. :o)

My dad is a lifesaver
(Originally published by Nattie on October 27, 2003)
I tried to change the graphics on my site. I loved Di's graphics, but I like a change every once in a while. Anyway, my dad helped me with the style sheet because I goobered it up. Whatever happened to basic?! What do you think?

(Yes, I could have left this one out, but it brings back good memories. When I found out how much she was paying for her page on Xanga--and it was down at the time--I volunteered some server space I had. That might have been enough to seal the deal, but when I threw in a domain name, she bit. The result, sadly said, is history. ((((((Y'all))))))--Dad)

I'm trying to install a new stylesheet. So if things look wonky for a bit it is because I'm learning...very...very...very...s-l-o-w-l-y!

(Daddy's Note: There's no message in this entry...it just makes me remember working with Natalie to make her site suit her. She spent many hours searching the web for add-ons and skins--and learning how to use them--to make it uniquely hers, with minimal assistance from me. But she had to "rearrange the furniture" ofen, and we went through several makeovers, most of which looked better than it does now. I guess we will just leave it the way she did, for now, even though she probably would have changed it half a dozen times by now. Thanks, always.)

What the devil intended for evil, God used for good.
God bless you.

I take it back
(Originally published by Nattie on October 24, 2003)
One entry about how much I love 'em and they are bickering over who I listed first!? So in order of importance....
Stacey (because she is not here to comment)
Heather (because she is at work and can't comment)
Di (because she hasn't been online much lately and can't comment)
Skipper (because she is nice enough not to bicker)
Jojo (because she is younger than Dana who pointed out to everyone that I was going to be 30 *gasp* soon) and last but not least...
Dana! So there!
If you think I'm nuts, you should read the comments left on my last entry. ;o)

(Daddy's Note: The comments to which Natalie refers are those left on the original post in 2003 which, I am sad to say, are no longer available. Meanwhile, the archival entry of February 13, 23007, caused a noticeable spike in visitor numbers, and nothing but positive comments.
The proximity of that posting and your annual get-together was purely coincidental. I hope that those of you who got to meet last weekend in Nashville had safe travels and a wonderful time.)

Which Scrapbook Magazine are you?
(Originally published by Nattie on October 24, 2003)

You are Creating Keepsakes! You are on the cutting edge of scrapbooking. You keep yourself up to date on all the latest techniques and products because scrapbooking is an artistic expression and you want to be aware of all your options.
Heritage is important to you, and you want future generations to fully understand their heritage through your scrapbooks. Because heritage and heirlooms are priceless, you are willing to spend whatever it takes to get the perfect page, although a lot of times you end up making the finishing touches by hand and saving yourself a lot of money.
While you hope that future generations will appreciate your scrapbooks, you are content just knowing that you have done all to preserve memory that you can.

I love WAH
(Originally published by Nattie on October 23, 2003)
God lead me to a wonderful bunch of ladies. We are called WAH (women at home). We love each other. We support each other. We pray for each other, and we are all eerily alike. :o)
Today, Heather, sent us a poem. It was so wonderful I had to share. It may not seem special to you, but it is very special to me.
Friends
I have friends whose faces
Have only come to me in one dimension.
They slide to me without form.
Yet, they breathe with me.
I feel their hugs from far away.
Their names alone can make me smile,
And they offer me a godly refuge.
They are the shields, the swords,
The songs I prayed for.
On lonely nights and happy nights alike,
I find myself wishing to call them up,
To meet for coffee in the bookstore.
Subconsciously, I seek them out at church.
To worship with them would be a true experience,
And experience in sisterhood
I have not yet been blessed with.
Father, God, keep them well for me.
Grant their wishes.
Hold their hands
And bless their sleep.

Some people wonder if internet friendships can be real. I think so. I long to help them through hard times with more than just my prayers. I wish to meet them for coffee. I have met one of my "internet" friends, Ann. She wasn't a WAH member, but she is very special to me. I look forward to meeting more. I do get to meet Dana in November. Yippee!
Like I said, I love my "WAH." God bless you (in no particular order)...
Dana
Jojo
Skipper
Heather
Stacey
and Di

convicted
(Originally published by Nattie on October 22, 2003)
This isn't really a well formulated post, just a little free write on what is on my mind.
I've been very convicted lately about judging others attitudes, motives and words. Why do I judge? I say that I am concerned about the witness they are to others who might not believe. And I think that is a part of it. But the majority of it is that it is sooooo much easier to see someone else’s faults instead of looking at our own.
You know what Jesus says about it:
"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?"--Matthew 7:3 (NIV)"If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her."--John 8:7b (NIV)
Okay, IF my motives are pure, and I truly think something needs to be said, how do I do it?
Do I attack or barrage the person with insults (and, yes, I've been guilty of doing this)?
Or do I do what Jesus commands?
"If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that 'every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.' If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector."--Matthew 18:15-17 (NIV)
That doesn't really answer all my questions, but I do know that if my motives are right when I approach "my brother," I should approach him with love and truth. I'd find the verses to support that but my daughter is wanting me to read her If You Give A Mouse a Cookie.
So let us prayerfully examine our motives. And then if they are pure, act on them.
Oh, and did I mention that my pastor brought up this same subject at prayer meeting tonight? That is a Godstop. :o) And definitely not a coincidence.
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.--2 Peter 3:19

hormonal
(Originally published by Nattie on October 20, 2003)
Some days I wonder why I have to be a woman. I don't want to be a man, but I'd like some stable hormones. Today they are swinging from upbeat to chin on the floor.
~ Jonathan has made it all day without accidents. We haven't done the big poopie like we wanted too, but we haven't had an accident. :o) He is basking in the glow of accomplishment. Daddy even gave him his Troy Aikman folder to take his speech therapy papers to school in since sissy drew all over his other one.
~ Anna is wearing her underwear and everytime she goes to the potty she changes it. I seem to remember Jonathan doing this too.
~ I had to get gas, toilet paper and caffeine with only six dollars in my pocket. While I'm going on this errand, I get pulled over. I did nothing wrong. My tags expire on the 31st of the month and the policeman read the tags wrong. Thankful for this, but I still got that adrenaline rush.
~ I suck as an articles editor. I have yet to get my content written. :o(
~ My thighs are rubbing together. I need to lose weight!
~ I'm organizing my messy desk and have gotten rid of a trash bag full of junk. I went from three large piles to three small piles, and I'm still organizing.
~ Pray for my Soul Sis.
~ I'm riding the fence and it isn't comfortable. Read this.
~ Ann always makes me think. I especially liked her entry from 10/20/03
~ I reread this section in a favorite book of mine--Calm My Anxious Heart. I also did a review of it on my xanga site. Here is the list--written by a missionary with the pygmies in Africa for 52 years--
* Never allow yourself to complain about anything--not even the weather * Never picture yourself in any other circumstance or someplace else * Never compare your lot to others * Never allow yourself to wish this or that had been otherwise * Never dwell on tomorrow—remember that (tomorrow) is God's, not ours
Possible? Not today. But I do think it is important not to dwell or wallow. Some days are easier than others.
~ Oh, yeah, slept like crap last night. Got my wake up call at 5:30 and *gasp* went back to sleep. Then had to rush around and realized I didn't wash my hubby's work jeans.
~ Dr. Phil is about Going for Broke. I won't say he is right about everything, but he makes a lot of sense. Common Sense. ;o)
~ I bid on two items on ebay for no other reason than looking for a temporary fix to this hormonal low.
~ I put in this CD hoping if I surrond myself with God's praises that I'll feel better.
~ I have a sink full of dishes.
~ The laundry is multiplying.
~ I have nothing to fix for dinner except a loaf of bread and four eggs.
~ Anna just pooped in the pottie! It came as a surprise to her and was funny. :o) She had settled down to pee when I hear this - "Mom, I did it!" :o)
~ When Crystal Lewis is done, I'm putting in Amy Grant and Mercy Me.
~ I am ever thankful for my family and friends, even when I feel like crying in my diet coke, they still love me.
~ I want to crawl back into bed with my book. Anyone available to watch the kids and whip my apartment into shape?
~ That is probably enough whining for now. Hope to be back later with a better attitude.
